Hi
My wife and I have been to Anguilla, love the island, and want to rent a villa with our 2 daughters and their husbands. We were looking at Jems as well as Sur la Plage as they seemed reasonably priced, and in great locations. We would appreciate any comments, opinions, suggestions. PMs are welcome as well if you don't want to post them. We were looking to go late June of this year due to daughter's teaching schedule.
thank you.

We've never stayed at either but I've always thought Jems looked very nice from the online info I've seen. I just looked at Sur La Plage - aren't they connected to La Sierna hotel in some way? The villas might be closer to a beach (Meads) than Jems is if that's the case.
There are a few differences that would help sway me in either direction that maybe you didn't focus on -
SLP is near Meads Bay and has access to La Sirena's pool - not it's own private pool
JEMS is near Shoal Bay East but has it's own private pool
Just the locations and/or pool access could be a deciding factor for many.
If neither of those things matter to you - I'd only venture to say Jems looks a bit more updated in terms of interior design etc. but both look very nice. I hope someone who's stayed at either of them chimes in to give you some real hard facts. _________________ SAG

We stayed at Jems for a week last Feb. and will be there this year for two weeks. It is a very nice two or three bedroom villa in a very private area on Sea Rocks, the cliffside area you can see from Gwen's if you look east towards Island Harbor. There is a beautiful full view of the water from the terrace, pool, living/dining area, and from the master bedroom. The only drawback for me is that you are not on the beach. It's approx. a mile walk to Upper Shoal Bay, some on dirt roads, some on the SBE road. I plan to get a driver's license so I can do my ritual morning walk along Upper Shoal Bay and Shoal Bay east. The house is not fancy but not shabby. Glass dining room table, nice living room furniture, two bathrooms are older and some tiles are chipped but everything is shiny clean. Simple furnishings and adequate AC in the bedrooms. The kitchen is dated but very functional and the lighting could be improved. New terrace furniture, a must. Also the beach chairs had been well used with frayed seats. Suggestions for improvement were requested after we stayed and we're hopeful they took our suggestions and made the improvements. There is a pretty steep outside staircase going into the upstairs. Anyone with knee problems might find it an issue. The 3rd bedroom is on the ground floor and doesn't have a view of the water but does look out into the garden. We didn't see the inside of the downstairs area.
If you have any specific questions just ask, but you'd better ask quickly-look at my ticker!!!!!

I stayed at Sur La Plage years ago w/2 other couples.
Think about Blue Waters- you'll be happier there. |

Hey Fins to the left,
I second the motion to look somewhere other than SLP. If you want the low down send me a PM.

We have stayed at Jems & I wouldn't want to be the person in the 3rd bedroom -- it's kind of dark. May I suggest www.mainstayvilla.com -- We have stayed there for years & it is centrally located with gorgeous views of SXM and a very nice pool.

If you are looking for a 2 bedroom, Jems is the place! Close to Shoal Bay east, has it's own pool, and a nice accomodation for the price.

Thank you, everyone!
We were shocked that this resurfaced, but thankful to everyone who took an interest!
We decided on Panarea later in June. Will write a report when we return!
Thank you again!
